Come here for sunset and you will not be disappointed. I thought it was one of the most magical places I have ever seen! If I am not mistaken the tour costs 10 for foreigners but is well worth it

Historical site in Manda Island
Another ancient 15th century Swahili settlement along the Kenyan Coast that was abandoned in the 17th century due to wars and scarcity of potable water. It was gazetted as a national monument in 1982. The ruins are located on Manda island and can be accessed by boat from Lamu island. It is easier to access the ruins during high tides. It is a fairly deserted place with some interesting ruins and artefacts that, unfortunately, have not been well preserved by the concerned authorities.
Though the ruins of mosque with tomb pillar and abandoned village is impressive, access of the site by land is difficult. North gate and outside tomb pillar are intact after 3 centuries of elapsed time. From here beach is very near though it will be very hot.In the case of low tide boats cannot reach here and only option is by land. From the airport side it's around 10 to 12 km as you have to walk along the circumference of the mangroves forest covered with water.Though 2 wheelers are available from the airport or takwa village,it might be little expensive to see these ruins. Entry ticket for a tourist is 500 shillings which is reasonable.
Before going here, pass by Swahili House Museum. My girlfriend called that out because you really get the bigger picture of the Sultans, Oman Arabs, Islam culture then and just history! Awesome guide! Just go there before the sun starts to set really quick, the water comes back super fast!
