A micro-retailer is a business that buys goods in small amounts and resells them to consumers. Most micro-retailers buy their goods from wholesalers, but only for themselves and only in small amounts, which forces them to pay market prices. If they could buy in larger quantities, they could receive bulk discounts, but they do not have the money to buy in bulk. In the past, some have tried to combine their buying power and buy together with other micro-retailers in order to get the bulk discount, but this is easier said than done. Micro-retailers in the developing world do not have the financial flexibility to wait to buy their goods in groups. They never know when they are going to have the money to restock, and when they do, they need to act fast or risk running out of inventory and having nothing to sell. The idea behind Inukabuy is to aggregate the buying power of micro-retailers, while still allowing them the flexibility to buy whenever they want. We create purchasing groups of micro-retailers that are buying similar goods, then we negotiate bulk discounts with existing wholesalers. The wholesaler that provides the most attractive deal wins the contract and the purchasing group members are guided to that wholesaler and allowed to buy whenever is convenient for them. It is good for both parties involved: micro-retailers increase profit because they get their goods at a discount, and the winning wholesaler increases his/her profit (even after providing a discount) because he/she gets a lot of new customers.
