Cool stop on the way to the next campsite. It is definitely a tourist trap. Lots of pressure to buy something from the locals. Don’t fall for the trap of buying carvings from them. We found much cheaper carvings elsewhere and actually saw and met the wood carvers.

A good view of the landscape and vegetation at the middle of our country Kenya.
Despite what the signs say, this place has a latitude of about 0.016 so it is several km away from the real equator. The Coriolis demonstration is clearly faked as it would be impossible to demonstrate the effect at that scale anyway. If you want to have some fun, ask the guy if you can pour the water yourself. If you pour it a little to the right of the hole, you can 'magically' get counterclockwise motion in the northern hemisphere. The shop is extremely overpriced, like all these places. With some good bartering you can get items for 1/5 of the original price.
Where equitor passes in laikipia county kenya
Demonstration about match stick changing directions in either hemispheres with basic equipments is worth watching..
Not the actual equator, but close. As soon as you get out of the car, there will be someone there to demonstrate the Coriolis effect using a bowl of water and a matchstick. This is a blatant scam (the forces are negligible at this scale and would not affect the match). Not only that, but the actual equator is more than a kilometer away! Following the demonstration, they will hand you a certificate and offer to make it official by stamping it for 5 USD. It's kind of funny if you get a kick out of this sort of thing. The bathrooms aren't bad. The sales staff are nice, but they follow you around to tell you how they don't allow "high pressure" sales at their establishment. Ha ha.
One of the many points where the locals claim the equator passes
